New Doctor Who logo revealed

Change is afoot in the world of Doctor Who. Not only is a new Doctor due soon, with Matt Smith replacing David Tennant, but there have also been rumours that the Tardis will see something of a re-design. On top of all that, new showrunner Steven Moffat has revealed a new logo for the show.

Revealing the image, Moffat said:

“A new logo. The eleventh logo for the eleventh Doctor – those grand old words, Doctor Who, suddenly looking newer than ever. And look at that, something really new – an insignia! DW in TARDIS form! Simple and beautiful, and most important of all, a completely irresistible doodle. I apologise to school notebooks everywhere, because in 2010 that’s what they’re going to be wearing.”

Personally I quite like it, though it really seems they’re trying to distinguish Moffat’s new regime from the old Davies one quite strongly. It remains to be seen whether the content of the show will change as much, or whether it’s all style and no substance…

Richard Curtis to write Doctor Who episode

I just read on The Guardian that the writer of 98% of Britain’s romantic comedies has signed on to write an episode of the upcoming series of Doctor Who. Curtis, best known for Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Blackadder and The Vicar of Dibley said “It’s tremendously good fun and a treat for my children. These days the things you can watch together as a family are much fewer so when you get something like Doctor Who or The X Factor it is such a pleasure to sit down as a family.”

Curtis will of course be writing for the new cast of Doctor Who (Matt Smith and Karen Gillan) following the departure of David Tennant. While Curtis didn’t go into great detail on his script idea, he did say it would involve a “historical figure” battling a monster.

Fingers crossed for Baldrick vs. the Cybermen.

Final David Tennant Doctor Who episode details teased

Digital Spy have a brief interview with actor David Harewood, who will be appearing in this Christmas’ final Doctor Who episode starring David Tennant before newcomer Matt Smith takes over. Asked about his character, Harewood said:

“He’s a rather strange individual. He wants to do something remarkable and he seeks the help of probably the most evil person in the universe. And by seeking his help, he sets in motion a series of events that could possibly bring about the end of the world.”
