When I’d heard that Bryan Fuller was returning to Heroes, I felt a little fanboyish gurgle of delight. Maybe, just maybe Fuller could rescue the show from spiralling ever deeper into abject mediocrity. After all, Fuller was the man behind shows like Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me AND had been an executive producer of Heroes during its amazing first season.

Sadly Fuller only stuck around for about 6 episodes at the end of last season before jumping ship, possibly realising that not even he could breathe life back into this shuffling zombie of a show.

The word at the time was that Fuller was leaving to pursue his own projects, and now we’ve got a little bit of info on them…

The first is a pilot script for a sitcom called “No Kill” set in an animal rescue center that doesn’t destroy its furry or feathered friends.

The second is a collaboration with director Bryan Singer to create an hour-long weekly series based on the Augusten Burroughs novel “Sellevision”, focussing on the staff of a TV shopping channel.

I have to be totally honest and admit that, just as one-sentence descriptions, neither of these particularly grab me. Knowing Fuller, however, I’m sure they’ll turn out to be very funny, interesting series with some quirky characters and a bit of mystery.

And then, unfortunately, the shows will get canned after 5 episodes. Ah, the sweet smell of cynicism.
