Q&A with producers of the V remake

Digital Spy have a brief interview with Scott Peters and Jace Hall, the producers sci-fi remake “V”, in which they talk about adapting an older show for a modern audience, the challenge of casting the show, and balancing up character drama with sci-fi action.

It’s reassuring to hear Peters’ remark that “For me, I can only watch spaceships for a certain amount of time. If the characters are driving the show, it’s gonna be great. You have to invest in them and the technology is the icing on the cake.” Hopefully this is a good sign that remaking “V” isn’t just an excuse to show off 21st-century CGI but will instead delve a little deeper.

V premieres on November 3rd 2009.

Five-minute scene from Stargate Universe pilot leaked

I think someone in the Syfy marketing department is going to get their wrists slapped over this one. A five minute clip from the upcoming Syfy show Stargate Universe appeared on YouTube, apparently officially, before hurriedly being deleted. Seems like someone at Syfy released the video prematurely, but sci-fi nerds being what they are, dozens of people had already copied and reuploaded the video.

Various copies keep appearing and disappearing, so if the video below gets yanked, I’ll try to find a fresh copy. Meanwhile enjoy this scene from “Air” featuring big explosions, Robert Carlyle being Robert Carlyle, and some distinctly BSG-style camerawork…

I like. It’s got a bit more oomph than some of the other potential S2 posters that surfaced yesterday, and the tagline of “Anyone can happen” is apt. I desperately hope Dollhouse can pull in some more viewers this season, as I really want to see it survive. After a rough start it’s now one of the show I’m looking forward to returning the most.

Still, not long to wait. September 25th!

Here’s the new poster for the latest Stargate spinoff, Stargate Universe, which launches on Friday October 2nd on Syfy. I think this is the first time I’ve seen the show advertised in a bright, glossy way; it almost seems at odds with the dark, gritty image the producers have been praising about the new show, but perhaps that’s just to try and draw in as many types of viewer as possible. Aesthetically it feels pretty similar to some of the posters for the JJ Abrams Star Trek movie, so perhaps they’re trying to capitalise on that audience as well.

New Heroes S4 poster reveals nothing, fails to inspire; reflects show perfectly

I’m sorry if that comes off a little harsh. I do still watch Heroes, and occasionally see glimmers of hope, but the quality of the show has deteriorated so, so much from the almost flawless first season. The amount of incredibly schizophrenic characterisation in later seasons (with not just our heroes’ powers randomly changing to fit the circumstances but also their personalities and motivations) has made it hard to enjoy the show without pausing every 2 minutes to share a WTF?! with anyone else in the room.

Anyway, a new poster for S4 has popped up, and it doesn’t show anything. It’s Hiro, Sylar and Claire just… standing there. The same poster could have been used for S2 and S3, it’s so generic.

Heroes returns to NBC on Monday 21st September with a 2-hour premiere.

Which Season 2 character is returning to Dexter?

It feels like we’ve been waiting for decades for the next season of Dexter, but happily, the season four premiere is just around the corner on 23rd September. It’s already been fairly heavily publicised that John Lithgow is joining the cast for the upcoming season, but I’ve just heard the news about which character is making a return to the show…

That character would be FBI director and Deb’s former squeeze Frank Lundy, played by Keith Carradine, who returns to Miami pursuing a serial killer. It’s great to see Lundy back; I thought he and Deb had a very interesting relationship, and there was definitely scope for some kind of paternal thing between he and Dexter. It does raise the question of just what will happen between Deb and Anton this season? Jennifer Carpenter, who plays Deb, recently said that the relationship between the cop and the former CI will go to some “very interesting places” this year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Lundy has something to do with that.

Dollhouse S2 coming to the UK sooner than expected

Great news for UK-based Dollhouse fans! Sci-Fi, the channel which airs Dollhouse in the UK, has announced that the second season has been fast-tracked for broadcast from October 20th, meaning the UK will get episodes just three weeks after they first air in the US.

The first episode of S2, rumoured to be titled “Vows”, will feature guest star Jamie Bamber as well as the return of… (read on for minor spoilers)…Felicia Day and the other surviving cast members of “Epitaph One”. Fantastic.
