There seems to be an almost pathological secrecy at the Skywalker Ranch regarding the live-action Star Wars TV show, with journalists finding it easier to get blood from a stone than to get a straight answer from George Lucas or his cohorts. However, Dragon*Con saw some minor details revealed courtesy of Steve Sansweet presenting the “Future of Star Wars” panel.

Perhaps the most important news to Star Wars fans is that, after many years of talking about the project, actual pre-production is due to begin soon and run through until early 2010. Production would kick off that year, with the show estimated to premiere in 2011 (though more likely 2012).

They’re clearly not in a rush with this one, huh?

On a more cryptic note it was hinted that one returning character may be Boba Fett, who could even be played by Daniel Logan (the then-15 year old who portrayed him in 2002’s Attack of the Clones) with Sansweet saying “A couple of years ago Rick McCallum [Star Wars producer] said that he would consider it, and I would expect news from Daniel’s camp in the not-too-distant future.”

I have to admit to still being very unexcited by the idea of a Star Wars TV series, if the writing is on the same par as the films were. Hopefully Lucas will recognise that TV, moreso than film, can allow for much wider-ranging and deeper storylines and reflect that in the series.

It’s only rumour at the moment, but Lachman herself isn’t doing anything to dispel the suggestion that she may be appearing in the live-action Star Wars series that is currently being planned for.

SciFi Now interviewed the Dollhouse star who responded to the rumours with “If that’s true, then that’s amazing. If it’s the TV series then that would be awesome if I could do that after Dollhouse, as I am a huge Star Wars fan.” She went on to say “I am a huge George Lucas fan; I love those movies and that would be a dream come true – I’d love to do it, it would be incredible. Maybe I could be Queen of the Ewoks.”

It would be great to see Dichen Lachman appear in something so high profile, as she’s one of the best things about Dollhouse (and, dare I say it, perhaps better at playing a doll than Dushku?) The only bit that worries me is that she mentions “after Dollhouse”. Does that mean fitting in a potential Star Wars series around her Dollhouse duties, or does she mean after the show is cancelled/she leaves? I’d hate Lachman to bail on Dollhouse, as Sierra is such a strong character.

Hopefully she could fit both shows into her schedule, if the offer ever came. If she did get the job, what kind of Star Wars character can you see Lachman as?
